TEACHING

Alex has been teaching piano for over 15 years with students ranging from complete beginners to advanced. He specialises in jazz, improvisation & music theory and has a fully up-to-date DBS certificate. Previous teaching posts include Aura Music Academy & Highway Hope, and he has led workshops on jazz, improvisation and composition at Altrincham Grammar School, Z-Arts, Willow Dene School and with M:Tech at St Paul’s Cathedral School in London. He was musical director for the Edinburgh University Jazz Orchestra 2012-13, during which time he also led music & singing sessions for a weekly dementia support group at The Eric Liddell Centre.

 

Alex has also been involved in several community projects abroad. He volunteered on a music project in Bosnia for young people suffering from war trauma and led music workshops for adults with learning difficulties at an activity camp in Serbia. In association with the World Appreciation of Music Foundation, he spent two months teaching at the Centre for Development of Music Studies in Kerala, India, where he also gave workshops on jazz and piano performance and assisted in the setting-up of a new music college.

Alex is currently working as a product owner for sheet music company Tomplay, where he is managing the creation of beginner courses for the piano and other instruments in their library.
